What does outdoor boat storage look like at our yard?

Winter is where most boat damage happens, and most of it is avoidable. Water left in an engine freezes. A loose cover traps moisture and grows mildew. A hull sitting wrong for five months takes a set. Good storage is not complicated, but every step has to be done right.

We store boats outdoors in our yard in Plymouth. Every boat goes onto stands, so the hull carries its weight where it should. Then we shrink-wrap it. The wrap is shrunk tight so snow and ice slide off, and we put vents in every one so air moves and moisture can get out. A tight, vented wrap is the difference between a boat that comes out clean in spring and one that comes out smelling like a basement.

Storage starts with winterizing. Before a boat goes under wrap, we winterize the engine, fuel system, and water systems so water is not sitting in them when the first hard freeze hits. We haul from your driveway or your marina, so you are not lining up a hauler, a winterizing shop, and a yard separately and hoping the timing works.

The boat is not just parked for five months, either. Winter is when we do the work that is hard to schedule in season: repairs, tune-ups, electronics installs, and engine rebuilds (we rebuild more than 100 engines a year). If something needs attention, we can do it while the boat is already here. In spring, we can start it up for you before you take it back, if you want us to. We have been in business since 1986.

Diagnostics

Problems we fix

Our experts diagnose and resolve any issue.

Mildew under a bad cover

A cover with no airflow traps moisture. By spring, every cushion and the whole cabin smell like it.

Frozen engine and water lines

Water left in an engine or a water system freezes and cracks it. Winterizing before storage is what prevents this.

Snow load on a loose cover

A sagging tarp collects snow and ice. The weight tears the cover or pushes it down onto the boat. A heat-shrunk wrap sheds it.

Hull stress from bad support

Five months on the wrong points can leave marks in the hull. Stands set at the right spots carry the weight properly.

Mice moving in

Mice look for a dry place in the fall. A wrap sealed at the edges gives them fewer ways in.

FAQ

Secured Boat Storage questions, answered

Common questions about our secured boat storage services.

Is your storage indoor or outdoor?

Outdoor. We store boats on stands in our yard in Plymouth, and every one gets shrink-wrapped with vents. We do not have indoor or heated storage. For most boats, a tight, vented wrap over a winterized boat is what it needs: the wrap sheds snow and ice, the vents let moisture out, and the stands carry the hull properly. If you think your boat needs to be inside for the winter, call and we will talk it through.

Is outdoor shrink-wrap really enough?

For most boats, yes, as long as it is done right. A tight wrap sheds snow and ice and keeps the weather off. Vents keep air moving underneath so moisture does not sit and grow mildew. A sagging or unvented wrap is where a cheap wrap job goes wrong, and that is the part we do not skip.

Can I get to my boat during the winter?

Getting into a wrapped boat means cutting the wrap and sealing it back up afterward, so it is extra work. If you expect to need something out of the boat over the winter, tell us before we wrap it.

When should I bring the boat in?

Mid-October through mid-November is the usual window in Plymouth. Later than that risks a hard freeze before the boat is winterized. We haul the boat and winterize it before it goes under wrap.

Can you work on the boat while it is stored?

Yes, and winter is a good time for it. Repairs, tune-ups, electronics installs, and engine work can all be done while the boat is stored here. Tell us what you want done when you book the haul.
